Devendra Obi Banhart (conceived May 30, 1981) is a Venezuelan American artist musician and visual craftsman. Banhart was conceived in Houston, Texas and was brought by his mom up in Venezuela, until he moved to California as a young person. He started to learn at the San Francisco Workmanship Foundation in 1998, however dropped out to perform music in Europe, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Banhart discharged his presentation collection in 2002, keeping on recording his material on the Youthful God and XL marks, and also other work on gatherings and joint efforts.

Banhart was conceived May 30, 1981 in Houston, Texas, to a Venezuelan mother and an American father, Robert Gary Banhart. His given name is an equivalent word for Indra, the lord of Divine beings (Hindu), which was proposed by Prem Rawat, an Indian religious pioneer whom Banhart's guardians followed.[1] Banhart's center name Obi was designed according to Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Star Wars character.[2] Banhart's guardians separated two years after his introduction to the world and he moved with his mom to Caracas, Venezuela.[3] His mom later remarried and Banhart's stepfather moved the family to Los Angeles,[3] when Banhart was 14 years old.[4]

In 1998, Banhart started learning at the San Francisco Workmanship Foundation on a scholarship[3] while living in The Castro, San Francisco's gay neighborhood.[5] He started to busk as opposed to going to classes and played his first appear in a congregation at a gay wedding, performing Elvis Presley's "Adoration Me Delicate" and the exemplary psalm "How Extraordinary Thou Art."[4] Banhart dropped out of craftsmanship school in 2000[3] and left San Francisco after the website bust compounded the city's economy.[4] He moved to Paris over the late spring and opened shows for outside the box rock groups, for example, Sonic Youth.[3] Banhart came back to the Unified States in the fall of 2000 and played music in San Francisco and Los Angeles, until he was found by Michael Gira, proprietor of Youthful God Records,[3] after Siobhan Duffy, Gira's wife, purchased a duplicate of Banhart's demo Album The Charles C. Banhart and Gira incorporated a collection from Banhart's recordings,[1] and in 2002, Gracious Me Goodness My, which was comprised of short fragments,[6] was distributed by Youthful God Records and got positive reviews.[7] He recorded two different collections and an EP for the name: Cheering in the Hands, NiƱo Rojo, and The Dark Babies;[7] the discharges had a straightforward acoustic sound.[5] Banhart changed to XL Recordings in 2005[7] and discharged Challenged person Crow, which was recorded in Bearsville Studios, New York and had a more intricate sound.[5]

Furthermore in 2005 Devendra worked together with Antony and the Johnsons on the grant winning collection I Am a Flying creature Now. Banhart sings the prologue to the melody "Spiraling" and plays guitar on "You Are My Sister" in which Kid George additionally shows up.

Devendra was the principal craftsman to outline a shirt for the Yellow Winged creature Venture, in 2006. He gave the benefits from the offer of his Shirt to the Young Malignancy Trust.[8]
